CIO Thread

I frequent a parenting message board on Baby Center. I don't know why I visit this board because I always end up walking away wanting to hurt someone. Here is a thread that was started yesterday about CIO. What are your thoughts?

I have to agree with your 'what the hell?' comment... that's just messed up.

I am willing to give that mom the benefit of the doubt and say that she is a first time mom. I am HOPING and praying for that anyway. Maybe she is one of the millions of women who are brainwashed by today's society into thinking that Dr. Spock (remember him from way back when? He write the moron book!) knows best. Maybe she doesn't know any better. Maybe she doesn't have smart women in her life who are helping here to know better. I feel sorry for her and her baby because she is missing out on an incredible bonding experience. Sad. So so sad.

What a thread! It's amazing to me the HUGE difference of opinion in parenting and methods of parenting. To me I just can't do it. There is no way in the WHOLE WORLD, I could let a 4 day old baby cry. It makes me cry to think about it. I hope that poor little baby gets his needs met sometime.

Are you kidding me? Some of the people are there are just making crap up too. We don't develop the ability to self soothe at 6 months. Give me a break.

**deep breaths** I am livid right now!

Veronica, I am part of a "natural parenting board" you would like. We are most all AP.

Yeah, you should check out clothdiapernation.com even if you don't cloth diaper, they're pretty much all crunchy AP types. :D

I'm a big (ok let's get real HUGE) proponent of people being able to choose what method of parenting works for them...BUT (and it's a HUGE but)..in NO universe is it ok to let an infant cry themselves to sleep at 4 days old. And it's NOT ok to "train" a baby to do anything. They are not pets. I train my dog. I TEACH my child. And in leaving an infant to cry themselves to sleep or to cry when they get hungry because we force our schedules on them we teach them that WE are more important than THEY are. So why have a child if you are still the most important person in your life??
My head hurts from that thread...

I had to chime in and let Veronica know how very much her comments meant to me. The very night before this thread I had made a decision to abandon my almost one year old at night because she's having a rough week. We have recently moved, and with the time change, her schedule has left me with some pretty sleepless nights. You reminded me, Veronica, that this too shall pass. And that the most important thing is that my baby's needs are met, that she feels secure in her home. The rest will come in time. Thanks again,
Becky

Becky- Thank you for the comment and the support. I sure got slammed on that board! I think I made some enemies :) But it is something I am wildly passionate about and I could not contain myself when I heard what some of those women were saying. It's nice to know that my words had some impact on someone for the better. My goal was to educate, but I think somewhere along the line my emotions got the best of me!

I am so sorry you're having a hard time with your baby. Honey, I have been there time and time again. This too SHALL indeed pass. It just doesn't seem like it at the moment. Try to look at this time as sacred...a time when your baby is so utterly dependent on you for everything. What an honor. I hope you can see it that way. Keep on keepin' on!

I'm sorry for my comment here. I forgot one important thing... we all live in glass houses. Sorry for throwing rocks.

No Mandy I registered at BabyCenter! Ha. I already got a warning from a moderator too.

I am not LDS. I have had the missionaries over for about 4 months but we actually reached a point where were are going to tell them to stop coming because we don't feel its what is right for us. I am going to tell them to come back in a couple months though.

I could write a whole long post about that so I think I will stop now. Haha.
